Summary
**Book Review: *Shadow Operative* by Christy Barritt**
*Shadow Operative* is the first book in Christy Barritt’s Shadow Agency series, and it had me hooked from the very beginning.
Nia Anderson wakes up next to the dead body of a business acquaintance she had dinner with the night before—with absolutely no idea how she got there or what happened. Talk about an opening that makes you want to keep reading!
At the same time, Gage is flying in to meet his best friend, Rob, after receiving an unexpected call asking him to come and help. Gage has very few details about what is going on, so he is completely shocked when he arrives and discovers Rob’s body.
From there, the mysteries begin to collide.
One of my favorite things about Nia was her intelligence. I love a heroine who thinks through situations and contributes to solving the mystery rather than simply needing to be rescued. Gage was a great counterpart for her, and I enjoyed following the clues alongside them as they tried to figure out how everything was connected.
We also begin learning about the mysterious Shadow Agency along the way. The concept added another interesting layer to the story—and honestly made me wonder if organizations like this actually exist in real life. 😊
The mystery kept me guessing, and there was plenty of action and suspense to keep the story moving. It also did exactly what I want the first book in a series to do: it made me curious about the Shadow Agency and eager to learn more about the people involved.
If you enjoy fast-paced romantic suspense with intelligent characters, plenty of action, and a mystery you can try to solve along with the characters, *Shadow Operative* is a great start to a new series. I think fans of Susan Sleeman will especially enjoy this one.
