Summary
Audiobook Review: The Bride's Betrayal by Debra Webb
I listened to the audiobook edition of The Bride’s Betrayal, and it was another enjoyable entry in Debra Webb’s Colby Agency series. While the books are connected through the Colby Agency, each mystery stands well on its own. I’ve listened to or read nearly every book in the series, and I’ve enjoyed every one of them. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, this is a series I’m always comfortable recommending.
Debra Webb’s Harlequin Intrigue novels are a reliable choice for me. They consistently deliver fast-paced mysteries, compelling characters, and satisfying twists. I’ve found that her Harlequin titles generally focus more on the investigation and suspense, while some of her other novels contain more graphic violence.
The story follows Rory, who has spent the last two years in prison after being convicted of murdering her husband on their wedding night. Believing she was wrongly accused, Rory’s brother hires the Colby Agency to uncover the truth. Investigator Chance Raider soon discovers that the original case is filled with unanswered questions and overlooked evidence.
As the investigation unfolds, several believable suspects emerge, making it difficult to know who can be trusted. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery alongside Chance, and I have to admit—I never saw the ending coming. Those are always my favorite kinds of mysteries.
Although the suspense takes center stage, there is also a subtle romantic subplot that adds just the right amount of warmth without distracting from the investigation.
I also enjoyed the audiobook narration. The narrator did a great job maintaining the pacing and suspense while bringing the characters to life, making it an easy and engaging listen.
Content Notes: Themes include sexual assault as part of the investigation and backstory. While not graphically depicted, readers sensitive to this topic may want to be aware.
