Book Title: Plenty of Rope:
Book Author: Alyce-Kay Ruckelshaus
What do you like about this book:
This is the fourth book in this series and I have read the three previous books. I would recommend reading them in order as they build on one another. I have very mixed feelings about this book. There were some places where I just wanted to give up on the series as the book was not holding my interest. Then it finally picked up and I enjoyed it much more. I especially enjoyed the scene with Nelson in the mental hospital. It was great to see him getting the help he needed. I did not enjoy the jumping back and forth with time. It made it very hard for me to follow. I think I could have followed better if the jumps had been less frequent. I do enjoy Alyce-Kay’s style of writing. Her books are obviously Christian fiction, but I do not find them preachy at all. I also like the way she forces the reader to look at multiple sides of a situation without overtly influencing the reader’s stance. Probably the thing that bothered me most was that the book ended in not one, but two cliff hangers. I’m just not a fan of cliff hangers. It is still up in the air if I will invest the time for the next book. Now I worry if it too would end in a cliff hanger. As usual for this author, this is a clean book.
This book centers mostly on DeWayne and Sheila, though there are visits to the characters we have grown to love in the past three books. The couple has unexpectedly begun hosting a church group in their home. DeWayne wants Sheila to partner with him as co-pastors, but Sheila is not convinced this is a Biblically approved role for her. The secondary theme revolves around Nelson and his recovery, including all the struggles he faces.
