Haunted by the horrors of war, ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries known as Hanger’s Horsemen who have become legends in 1890s Texas. They defend the innocent and obtain justice for the oppressed. But when a rustler’s bullet leaves one of them at death’s door, they’re the ones in need of saving.
Dr. Josephine Burkett is used to men taking one look at her skirts and discounting her medical skills. What she’s not used to is having a man change his mind in a heartbeat and offer to assist her in surgery. Matthew Hanger’s dedication to his friend during recovery earns Josephine’s respect, and when she hears of her brother’s abduction, he becomes her only hope for rescue.
Matt has stared down ruthless outlaws, betrayal, and injury, but when a bossy lady doctor crawls under his skin, his heart is tempted to surrender. And when she is caught in the crossfire, he may have to sacrifice everything–even his team–to save her.

"The Doc's one of us now, Cap. The moment you staked your claim, she became family."
Dr. Josephine Burkett's life changed dramatically the moment that Matthew Hanger deposited one of his men onto her treament table with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Treating one of the famed "Hanger's Horsemen" had not been on her agenda, and sparring with their larger then life captain had never made her list of life goals, but Jo was pleasantly surprised at how much she was actually enjoying it. Once she manged to burrow under Matt's gruff exterior, there was a wounded hero just waiting to be recognized . . . . and possibly even loved. . . . . but that was just the beginning of the story.
What magnificent characters with rich, deep inspiration, beginning with Preach's Scripture quoting; as essential to the story as his character. And there's Jonah, with his eagle eyes and practical application of strategy. The youngster Mark; with those winsome smiles and his charming disposition; he smoothed out so many rough edges, not to mention demonstrating his stalwart bravery under pain and pressure. Last but certainly not least, the warrior leader, with his sharp battle skills and intuition, but possessing a heart that loved fiercely, and passionately, and possibly . . . had room to love a lady doc, who couldn't help but spout off a dictionary full of words that most people wouldn't begin to understand. But he didn't have to, he understood her heart.
This is going to be a great series! It already is.
