If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection.
Two-time Grammy winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned this lesson through more than his share of adversity—childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
Along the way, Lecrae attained an unwavering faith in Jesus and began looking to God for affirmation. Now as a chart-topping industry anomaly, he has learned to ignore the haters and make peace with his craft. The rap artist holds nothing back as he divulges the most sensitive details of his life, answers his critics, shares intimate handwritten journal entries, and powerfully models how to be a Christian in a secular age.
This is the story of one man’s journey to faith and freedom.

Book Author: Lecrae
What do you like about this book:
Summery::
Emmy-Award-winning rapper, Lecrae shares his remarkable testimony in a story that is both inspiring and relatable. It is powerful and emotional, and demonstrates an everyday Christian's struggle with right and wrong, how to live and how not to live. And although Lecrae's circumstances are occasionally difficult to read about, and most of us do not know the full extent of what he went through, Lecrae speaks in a language every Christian can understand: brokenness and regret. But, ultimately, he shows how the power of God broke through for him, and how He will break through for us. And though this is not a novel for most of Lecrae's fans (teens and tweens), it is a strengthening experience to be savored.
Sexual Content::
In his early life, Lecrae was sexually abused by his babysitter (she is said to drop her pants and approach him, cutting off the scene then). This gives him a longing for more, and he follows to say that his mission was to get girls by themselves and "get their pants down"--he did this to friends and even some of his relatives. Running up to his school teacher, he buries his face into her chest. As his life continues, he is said to bed many women and have desires to have sex with women. In college, he ends up moving in with his girlfriend and they are implied to have sex frequently. Although sex is casual, none of the actions are described.
Violent Content::
Abortion is mentioned a few times.
Language::
None.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
Lecrae and many of his friends drink and do drugs (a picture shows a three-year-old Lecrae with a beer can in his hand). Throughout the book, Lecrae struggles with alcohol and drugs.
Recommendation:: 3/5
Reading Age:: 18 and up (for unsettling sexual content including abuse and drug content throughout)
