The ancients saw Death as a blazing figure on horseback, swift and merciless. Those facing the black chasm often mistook their pounding hearts for the beating of hooves.
Now, two FBI agents pursuing a killer from a centuries-old cult realize they have become his prey.

Book Title: Comes a Horseman
Book Author: Robert Liparulo
What do you like about this book:
Summery::
Comes a Horseman is Robert Liparulo's debut novel, and definitely the one with the greatest amount of violence. A dark story and gory scenes make for a hard book to get through. I struggled through this novel--not because it wasn't well-crafted or thrilling, just...long. In an attempt to milk this story for all it's worth, Liparulo ends up dragging it on, and on, and on. And on.
Among its many faults, the one that masters over all the others is its continuous violence. And though it does have an original, riveting plot, it's way too violent for me to recommend--to anybody. But if you shorten it by a couple hundred pages, tone down some of the blood, and withdraw slightly from the Satanic story, you'd have a Class-A thriller that would be on my favorites list. But this, unfortunately, is not the case.
Sexual Content::
While positioned in a bathroom, a man spies on a woman as she undresses--but he can't see anything, and what he can see, thankfully, the reader cannot.
It is suggested that a woman lived with her boyfriend. A man leers at a woman's private area and she looks down at his. Even though the scene doesn't go any further, it still owns a sensual, maybe even uncomfortable tone.
A man has a history of sexual affairs and rape. A few suggestive references. Romance between characters.
Violent Content::
Where do I start? Blood bathes these pages, exploring almost every practical way a man, woman, or child can be killed or injured. People are shot, mauled by wolves, in a car wreck, and even beheaded by an ax. Intense scenes entail a lot of blood and frightening situations--actually, all these scenes entail blood. By the bucket full.
A boy is pushed off a cliff and breaks his leg pretty severely. Anther is said to have murdered his abusive mother. The horrors of Satan worshipping is discussed in dark detail, along with the death of children. A handful of gruesome metaphors/similes. In truth, the violence is completely, and utterly unavoidable.
Language::
"H-ll" is used twice in puns, and one potential misuse of God's name.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
A man drinks himself to sleep; others drink wine. A few fifth-grade boys are said to smoke secretly and adults do it elsewhere. A woman has a smoking habit.
Cleanness rating:: 1.5/5
Rating:: R - for grisly violence and some terror
