Cowboys, Action, Humor, and History Collide in Connealy’s Latest
When an explosion kills men and damages the CR Mining Company, the Bodens realize their troubles are not behind them as they thought. Shadowy forces are still working against them.
Cole Boden finds himself caught between missing his time back East and all that New Mexico offers. Sure he fights with his siblings now and then, but he does care for them. He enjoys running the mine and, when he’s honest, he admits that Melanie Blake captures his interest in a way no other woman ever has.
Melanie has been a friend to the Bodens forever. A cowgirl who is more comfortable with horses and lassoes than people, she never expected to find herself falling for someone. Particularly for refined Cole Boden, a Harvard graduate who may not stay long at the ranch. She’s determined, however, to help the Bodens finally put an end to the danger that’s threatened all of them. But will putting herself in harm’s way be more dangerous than anyone expected?

"Mel should have punched Cole in the face."
Cole Boden has returned to Cimarron Ranch at the insistence of his father, who literally "willed" all three Boden siblings to live together on the ranch; their inheritance in dire jeopardy if even one of them rescinded. Thankfully, Cole was granted the freedom to use his Harvard bred business skills to oversee, what he has turned into, a lucrative mining business on the property. When a series of well timed explosions not only kill some of his miners and close up several working tunnels, the repercussions are clear; Cole's life and livelihood are in mortal danger.
Arriving on the awful scene of the explosions to assist in any way that she can, Mel "Melanie" Blake unintentionally catches the eye of the oldest Boden brother. Fiesty as a mother bear and as beautiful as a desert sunset, Mel gives Cole more to think about than how he is going to revive his business and protect his family against a decades old threat of revenge. Mel, on the other hand, knows that Cole's future on Cimarron Ranch may be temporary, so who has time to worry about an infuriating man who cannot make up his mind about kisses? Trouble is brewing; too far down.
A delightfully witty, and very enjoyable ending to one of Mary Connealy's best series.
