Summary
From: Isaac Scego
Book Title: The Silver Hand
Book Author: Stephen R. Lawhead
What do you like about this book:
Summery::
Lawhead, as always, succeeds in pulling the reader into another world, giving it texture and taste. The Silver Hand is an epic tale full of mystic descriptions and rich--though sometimes problematic storytelling. And after this book--my sixth of his--I am convinced that Lawhead is of select taste. If you read to relax and escape to another place and another time, I would recommend any of his books (p.s. - beware of violence). However, if you are the type to read books frot he sake of thrills, suspense and excitement, I suggest you pass on this author.
Sexual Content::
The romance between Llew and Goewyn continues at a casual pace. In a song, a woman's breasts are described briefly. When they walk into a conquered camp, a woman is found beaten and dead, believed to be raped. Some non-sexual nudity.
Violent Content::
Lord Meldron's methods of intimidation are horrific: burning, torturing, and killing millions of innocent people. At one point, we are led into a battlefield, where hundreds of human heads are skewered on spears, including those of women and children. We never witness these acts, but we do get a glimpse of their disturbing remains. A young girl is shot. A man's arm is cleaved off, as are another man's eyes, which--obviously--will make for an unsettling scene. Dozens of sword fights and a few battle sequences can get pretty bloody.
Language::
None.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
People drink wine and ale frequently.
