Robin Hood: The Legend Begins Anew
For centuries, the legend of Robin Hood and his band of thieves has captivated the imagination. Now the familiar tale takes on new life, fresh meaning, and an unexpected setting.
Hunted like an animal by Norman invaders, Bran ap Brychan, heir to the throne of Elfael, has abandoned his father’s kingdom and fled to the greenwood. There, in a primeval forest of the Welsh borders, danger surrounds him–for this woodland is a living, breathing entity with mysterious powers and secrets, and Bran must find a way to make it his own if he is to survive.
Steeped in Celtic mythology and the political intrigue of medieval Britain, Stephen R. Lawhead conjures up an ancient past and holds a mirror to contemporary realities. Prepare yourself for an epic tale that dares to shatter everything you thought you knew about Robin Hood.

Book Title: Hood
Book Author: Stephen R. Lawhead
What do you like about this book:
Stephen Lawhead is an eloquent writer, imaginative, descriptive, and moving. Nevertheless, the quality of his writing is the only thing that keeps the reader reading. Hood is both wordy, and slow in its approach to nowhere. I would suggest overlooking this novel in order to read its sequels, that is, if it were a possibility. His idea is original, inventive, and owns the potential for a epic tale. However, Lawhead's execution falls short to the modern-day reader.

Sexual Content: Bran is in a sexual relationship with a political leader's daughter. The father disapproves of Bran's encounters, but that does not stop him from secretly meeting her. A man's adulterous intentions on another woman is mildly hinted at, but never expressed.
Violence: Infrequent, but graphic. Battle scenes feature men being slain by swords and arrows and much blood is described. King Raven uses grisly methods of scaring his opponents.
Language: "B--tard" is used often throughout the story.
Drug/Alcohol: Kings and queens share cups of wine.
