Fiona Lanier is the only woman in the tiny Gulf Coast settlement of Navy Cove. While her shipbuilding family races to fill the demand for American ships brought by the War of 1812, Fiona tries to rescue her brother who was forced into service by the British Navy.
Lieutenant Charlie Kincaid has been undercover for six months, obtaining information vital to the planned British invasion of New Orleans. When a summer storm south of Mobile Bay wrecks his ship and scatters the crew, Charlie suffers a head injury, ultimately collapsing in the arms of a beautiful mermaid who seems eerily familiar. As Charlie’s memory returns in agonizing jags and crashes, he and Fiona discover that falling in love may be as inevitable as the tide. But when political loyalties begin to collide, they’ll each have to decide where their true heart lies.

Summary
She knows him! When a man's body washes up on the Gulf shores of Mobile Point, Fiona Lanier supposes him dead and frantically pours all of her efforts into resuscitation, literally willing him back to life. It is when two eyes of differing colors meet her own, that Fiona gasps with recognition; this is none other than her veryBritish childhood acquaintance, Charlie Kincaid. Charlie Kincaid remembers nothing. Obviously, the beautiful blue¬eyed mermaid who rescued him from certain death knows him and while suspecting him to be a British naval officer, or worse; a spy, she appears willing to keep that opinion to herself at great risk to her family. To further complicate matters, romantic feelings grow with rapid intensity, making impending separation even more difficult, not to mention extremely dangerous. The author of \"The Magnolia Duchess\" demonstrates an astounding knowledge of the complicated history of our southernmost states during a perilous time in our nation's formation, the war of 1 81 2. In spite of having to establish a plethora of family history at the onset; patriotism, courage, honor and bravery are exalted through circumstances that we enjoy reading about, but would never want to live through. Beth White has delivered a fascinating addition to her \"Gulf Coast Chronicles\". It was my pleasure to receive a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
Violence:After all, this story centers around a war.
