Shaken and dismayed, she is certain of only one thing: the God she has loved since childhood. Summary
Hearing about Sydney Betts' books and actually reading one are two entirely different experiences; for this story was richer and deeper than I anticipated.
Plunging her readers into the life story of a young woman, cruelly torn from a father that adored her and promised to one who would scorn her, Alcy Callen's secure future suddenly appears bleak. Calling on the help of her friend Captain Nathaniel Anderson, Alcy is whisked away from undesirable matrimony, only to be confronted with certain demise. Heroically rescued by an Indian warrior, Preying Eagle; what began as a terrifying experience divinely morphs into a calling, as Alcy's transformation into Eyes-Like Water brings totally new meaning to her life.
Inspirational to the core, "A River Too Deep" is a tribute to the Native American culture, illuminating how many tribal customs and relationships mirror truths found hidden within God's Word, readying their hearts for the presentation of the Gospel. As Eyes-Like-Water's faith is tested in ways that defy human strength, she ultimately understands that God alone can be a "strong rock, a house of defense to save me. " Enjoy this beautifully written book.
