Summary
Reviewer Name: sam¬iam This series is so actionpacked and all around fantastic! Mara is struggling with issues relating to her sanity. She's sure of the fact that Jude, her exboyfriend who assaulted her the night the asylum collapsed, is still alive, but the only person who believes her is her current boyfriend, Noah. Add to that the fact that he's stalking her (in seriously creepy ways that involve dead animals, cryptic messages, and lots of blood), but she has to pretend that none of it even phases her if she's to succeed in fooling both mental health professionals as well as her family that she's the poster child for sanity. Mara's relationship with Noah is deepening in this book and many well written, romantic encounters are the result. Their relationship is however still plagued with secrets, but it adds to the delicious tension. Beware the heightened violence in this book. There are shocking, brief scenes peppered throughout the story, but it really picks up in the last 1 00 pages or so as Jude tortures both Mara and other characters. I wouldn't say anything horrific happens, but there is a lot of pain, blood, and edge of your seat twists. A big twist is introduced near the end as it appears maybe more \"gifted\" characters have been added to Mara and Noah's pool, and the traits that unite them all seem to be part of a bigger experiment that stretches all the way back to the night at the asylum. Overall, a great teen read with a good balance of romance and action, excellent characterization, and unbelievable plot twists. Recommended for grades 9 and up
