Summary
Overall All God's Children by Anna Schmidt is book number one in the Peacemakers series. As a person interested in learning about WW 2 and the atrocities of the Nazis, I found this book an informative read. I learned something new about the time period: there was a nonviolent intellectual resistance group consisting of students at the University of Munich and their philosophy professor. This group was called White Rose. The author interjected this bit of history into her novel which made for excellent drama for the middle portion of her plot. As I had never heard of this group, it was good to learn of another pocket of resistance within Nazi Germany. The author
also utilized another real historical event of a massive concentration camp escape in the last third of her plot. She did a good job of tying all the events together, as well as providing a premise for protagonist, Beth, an American citizen, to be in Germany during this time. Another interesting element of the story was the inclusion of the Quaker faith or the Religious Society of Friends.
