The year: 1956. Eddie Lowery, once caddie to Francis Ouimet, now a wealthy car dealer and avid supporter of amateur golf, boasts to fellow millionaire George Coleman that two of his salesmen – US amateur champion Harvie Ward and up-and-coming star Ken Venturi – could beat any golfers in the world in a best ball match. Coleman asks Lowery how he plans to prove it. ‘Bring any two golfers of your choice to the course tomorrow morning,’ Lowery tells him, ‘and we’ll settle the issue.’ Coleman shows up all right – with Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the game’s greatest living professionals.
In Mark Frost’s peerless hands, complete with the recollections of all the participants, the story of this foursome and the greatest private match ever played comes vividly to life.

Summary
Overall The Match by Mark Frost 2007 232 pages This book was undoubtedly one of the best surprises I've ever had in terms of reading a recommended book with no expectations and really loving the book. Not for everyone but I had this book suggested by a friend who loves golf and history. Yes, this book is about golf but it's fascinating. The Match,is a golf match set up as a bet back in the 1950s that included 4 of the best golfers ever to play the game. It was Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson vs. Ken Venturi and Harvey Ward. The Match was played at the famous, private, exclusive golf club called the Cypress Point Golf Club on California's Monteray Peninsula. If
you've never been, this area is one of the most beautiful in the world and one of the most enjoyable places in the world to play a round of golf too! The game was very different then from today where golfers can and do make millions of dollars over their careers. These guys had to earn every penney that they made. The story of \"The
Match\"is told while intermingling stories of each of the golfer's careers, how golf went from being an amateur to professional sport and lots of other topics. I really, really enjoyed this and learned a lot about the game.
