Tomas Dyrease, the newly made Earl of Irvaine and the village of Wisenvale, owes his good fortune to his king and the recent civil war. When his benefactor demands Tomas marry the cousin of a noble, he obeys. However, no one warned him that she wasn’t a typical noblewoman.
Brielle Solarius struggles to keep her village from starvation under the new Lord Wisten, her cousin. The men rode off to war and never returned. The remaining women and children face a dire winter if they do not find a solution soon. When she learns her cousin sold her into marriage to save his life, she isn’t surprised. However, she is taken aback by Lord Irvaine’s unpolished ways. Was this man a noble or a foot soldier?
Bound by the words of their vows, they face a rough future. They must forge a marriage while battling betrayal, accusations of treason, and villains from the past. Survival depends on their precarious trust in each other. Failure could mean death.

Summary
Overall I was very surprised at how much I was drawn into this story. Brielle and Tomas are required by the king to marry. I realize this storyline has been done several times but somehow this author was able to make it fresh and exciting. Tomas was a warrior and a nobleman. He was rough and gentle. I loved the scene with her frozen hands and when he kissed her before leaving for battle. He was so sweet. Brielle and Tomas are very well matched from the first scene of the book to the end. I really enjoyed the friendships throughout the book; the relationship between Brielle and her best friend Loren, and Tomas and his friend Dentin. I am hoping Dentin gets his own
book… I will be emailing the author to encourage that. 🙂
Violence There were battles with swords; historical type fighting. Nothing I found disturbing.
Language
Sexual Sweet chemistry between the characters with hugging and kissing. When sex occurs it is behind close doors and not
Drug & Alcohol others drink wine. not the main characters. There are drunk soldiers after the battle.
