Summary
I read a lot. Obviously. And I feel like there are really only two kinds of books out there: books where you learn things, and books you read that are great but teach you nothing. The latter was how I felt about The Selection. It was a very... fluffy book. A chocolate-cake book. A giggly book. A bunny-rabbit book. I originally picked it up to soothe my wounded soul after reading Flowers For Algernon for school. It proved to be just the right medicine. The story reminded me of being a little girl dancing around the living room in my Cinderella costume, humming \"So This Is Love\" and munching a cookie. Kind of hard to explain, but you get the picture. It was all glitter and ball gowns. I actually didn't mind the fact that the dystopian aspect of the story took a backseat to what was happening to America. The girl. Not the nation. Cool name, right? And while there was a love triangle- don't panic- it is interesting to note technically this book contained a love- thirty six people (whatever shape that is). Unusual, but it worked. I recently wrote a review detailing how I loved a book that is 3% romance, 97% explosions. Well, this book worked the opposite numbers. Which also makes for a good read. I enjoyed this book as a one-night read that is the ink-and-paper equivalent of a hot bath- a sweet romance good for relaxing in.
Violence-Yeah. No. This book contained exactly 1.5 explosions and a catfight. Which was a nice change.
Sexual-There is almost sex in one occasion, but in this particular dystopian America, sex out of wedlock is conveniently against the law. The romance was pretty innocent.
Drug & Alcohol-None except wine at dinner
