Brooke Baker, sold as a mail-order bride, looks to her future with dread but firm resolve. If she survived Uncle Jackson, she can survive anyone.
When Sky Jordan hears that his nefarious cousin has sent for a mail-order bride, he knows he has to prevent the marriage. No woman deserves to be left to that fate. Still, he’s as surprised as anyone to find himself standing next to her before the minister.
Brooke’s new husband turns out to be kinder than any man has ever been. But then the unthinkable happens and she holds the key that might save innocent lives but destroy Sky all in one fell swoop. It’s a choice too unbearable to contemplate…but a choice that must be made.

Summary
Overall This is an excellent historical fiction novel that is partially based upon a real life savage murder in the late 1800s and the resulting lynching of five Chinamen. The fictional part of the story surrounds a young mailorder bride who is rescued from a bad marriage match by the gallant Skyler Jordan. In this day, we women
take much of our freedoms and rights for granted, especially when you consider how women of that day where left with little say or control over their lives. When a young
woman (or even an older woman) had no family, many had no recourse but to become mailorder brides (or just get married to any man) in order to surviveleaving me to
wonder why they wanted to survive. It does give one pause to consider the opportunities given women today. On the other hand, it is uplifting to see the way Sky leads Brooke to learn to trust again and open her heart to his love. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to older teens.
