Summary
Hannah Rogers finds herself in a desperate conundrum after barely surviving an horrific carriage accident in route to her mistress\'s country estate. When she awakens at Clifton House, Lady Marianna Mayfield has disappeared and the kind souls who rescued Sir John Mayfield and Hannah make the erroneous assumption that she is Lady Mayfield. Discovering that Sir John may not survive his injuries causes Hannah to make an unthinkable decision; remain as Lady Mayfield long enough to return to Bath and rescue her infant son, trapped in an unsavory maternity home. When Sir John comes to his senses and his young solicitor, James Lowden begins asking too many questions, Hannah is trapped by her lies and innuendos. Surprisingly both men become interested in her affections, but Hannah stubbornly determines to consider her son\'s future above her own; how many hearts will be broken before true love finally rises to the occasion? \"Lady Maybe\" possessed interesting, inviting, and intriguing sections of story line, but they were surrounded by mild lapses in characterizations and emotional bonding. Judged by the ending, the book redeems itself brilliantly; it just took a little longer to arrive there.
